Just drinks?

Dress: ASOS (similar here and here)

I sometimes find it hard to decide what to wear for "just drinks", but when I found this dress in the sample sale at work I knew I had to have it (I even bought the same in green) as it creates the perfect outfit for when you're going out, but not "out out"!  Because the dress is such a standout piece, I chose to style it down a touch with smaller, more causal heeled sandals. I also pinned the V neck slightly at the bottom so I felt more comfortable in it. Here, I've kept the make-up natural and gone for MAC's "half and half" lip colour as not to overpower the look, however if I was to wear this dress "out out" I would go full on with a red lip and lots of eyeliner!

What do you wear for "just drinks"?

Orange Is The New Black

Orange knitwear is so big this season! Everyone at work has been wearing orange jumpers which is why I'm using mine to show you how I take my midi dress from casual day wear to after work drinks.

Midi dresses are great for Autumn as they are long enough that they won't get blown up in the wind, which is one reason why I never wear short skirts! For my day look I've teamed my amazing orange jumper with my dress, boots and a fab clutch from Primark! My thing at the moment is clutches for casual wear. There are so many nice ones out there that it seems a shame to restrict them to a night out. They can also take your look from boring to chic instantly!

For the evening look I've simply removed the jumper! I know that doesn't seem adventurous enough but let's be realistic... it's so much effort to bring in a change of shoes and accessories into work every time you go out! Also, it just goes to show that removing one item of clothing can rework a whole outfit. I'd team the evening look with a leather jacket and loads of eyeliner.

Blue Biker Jacket

Top - H&M (last summer)
Jeans - Zara (last summer)

When I saw this jacket in Primark I couldn't believe my eyes! It was almost exactly like the one I had been lusting over in Zara for so long but at the much more affordable price of £25 as opposed to £80! It was a hard decision between this pastel blue and the pastel pink version however I am just loving this colour at the moment. I've styled the jacket really casual here with just a grey "A"  logo t-shirt from last season's H&M, some Zara jeans and a pair of Nike Internationalists. However, this jacket could also be worn on a night out to add interest to an all black look.

Have you recently found any steal pieces that could pass as higher end?

Blanket Cape

Top: Matalan (last year)

As soon as I saw this blanket cape I knew I had to have it! It's the perfect combination of comfy yet stylish and I can now get away with wearing a blanket to work! The style of the cape has been inspired by Burberry AW14, who's models rocked a sort of scarf/coat combination, however the tartan brings the look back down to street style which means it's super wearable!

I teamed the cape with a textured black top and ripped jeans. I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit fairly simple and make the cape the statement piece. I know this is a very wintery item to wear in August, but with it being as cold and rainy as it has been it's the perfect excuse to wear it early! I'm also loving my new chunky Chelsea books from New Look, what do you think? Leave a comment below and let me know!

P.S. Please excuse the poor quality of some of these photos! It's so dark and cold by the time I get home from work that I had to take these photos inside. :-)

Winter in August

Necklace: Topshop sale

If the suns not out then I'll class it as a winter's day, and at the moment that's exactly what it's been like! So, in an attempt to keep warm I decided to team my smart long-line blazer with a few more casual pieces to create a very city-chic work look. I don't normally dress this smart for work, (and by smart I mean wear a blazer) however it gives me such a confidence boost and even though I bought the blazer in the January sales, it's a classic piece that won't be going out of trend in a hurry! I'm also still loving these jeans which were one of my amazing Primark finds that I featured in my very first styleandlondon post!

Casual is Confusing!

Hareem pants: Next
Shoes: ASOS, £35

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this when I say that sometimes, dressing down is harder than dressing up! Getting ready for a night out with friends is simple because there are unspoken outfit "rules" us girls (usually) follow by... dress/skirt/heels. However this is all turned upside down when it comes to a night in with friends. It's like you want to dress comfy but still be ready for the idea of a spontaneous drink at your local bar. Last night I went round my boyfriends to watch films and eat pizza and opted for this outfit as its baggy enough to feel comfortable in, yet chic enough to not be mistaken for pyjamas!

Do you feel more at ease choosing an outfit for going out as opposed to staying in? Leave a comment below and let me know!

P.S. I would just like to say a massive thank you to all the lovely ladies who have left comments on my blog or followed me on Bloglovin so far. I've only been at this for about a week and it's so encouraging to know that there is such a friendly vibe within the fashion blogging world!
